Craig Simpson (Watershed Solutions) recently supported the Teviot Valley Water Care Group (TWCG) in understanding existing stream health in their catchment and provided advice to improve their current water quality
monitoring programme. As part of this, Craig summarised existing upstream and downstream water quality data across six streams and 12 sites according to attribute bands from the NPS-FM. The report recommends several next steps for improving water quality monitoring methodology, including:
- Tailoring methodology to testing purpose
- Timing of sampling to establish baseline conditions.
Additionally, the report suggests mitigation options for nutrient management based on sampling results and land use to minimise contaminant loss from land to water throughout the Teviot area.
